Mixing styles

Hey, everyone, are you slowly adjusting to DST? It isn't easy, is it?

Here's another question as spring approaches: what would happen if you mix Birds + BoHo?
I snitched the back end page from a damaged book and added an egg picture from a magazine and put the whole thing in a bright yellow frame from Sand Dollar. Too crazy or all right in this house with its mishmash of styles? I like the turquoise in the background. It's hard to see in this photo, but the egg has a crack across it. That would be a nice symbol of the arrival of spring if there was any hint so far it's coming at all, let alone soon. We must keep faith that the sun will return at some point and birds start building nests and trees will bud. Or else the alternative is to go completely crazy in the dark, dank, dreary weather that's been our lot recently.

Are you longing for sun and spring?

Second time around

Hey, friends,

This post is a question from last year but still worth pondering.
So, where are the rest of you storing all this daylight we've saved so far?

In a bag?
Or a box?
Perhaps the drawer that holds your socks?
All that light, so sad to waste,
In a scrapbook using paste?
A tub, a bin, an empty jar;
Am I getting close so far?
Basket, chest, a piece of net,
Does it hurt if it gets wet?
Let me know what you've all done,
Saving daylight, losing none.
All this hassle, twice a year--
Forget it now, let's have a beer!

I hope you have a great week.

Heading Weekend-ward

Here it is Friday again, and not just any old last day of the work week. This is the last Friday before Daylight Savings Time begins for 2015. Are you ready? Last year it was a real struggle for both Mr. B and myself. May this one not be, for anyone!

Yesterday after Bible study I ran in the Sand Dollar where pickings were slim, but one treasure was found, right inside the door. Here it is set up, on another of my scrolly shelves, this one hung in the library.
Love the bright turquoise. It was $2.10 and still had a Crate & Barrel label on it. Now, check this out:
Here is a lamp sighted at Target this morning. Are they eerily similar or what? The color in real life is brighter than this picture, if not quite as turquoise as the vase. I would love to get one, but the thought of bringing something breakable into Kitty City here gives me pause. Most of our current lights are metal or wood or otherwise indestructible, aside from bulbs, which has saved a lot of broom and dustpan work over the past several years. It wouldn't really look as good surrounded by a metal enclosure, the way they do trees on city streets, alas. That's all I've got for now. Hope your weekend is great!

March 5, 2015

Hello, fellow lovers of the beat up and slightly shabby. Here's a prime example to check out. Recently it seemed like a useful addition to the house would be a card table to go in the living room as a place to work jigsaw puzzles. Yesterday at the MAM (Metropolitan Area Ministeries) Shop there one was. It is definitely old and the top is damaged, but if it's covered with puzzle pieces, what does that matter? The frame is wood and the legs are sturdy, which seemed the more important features. So, here it is:
Since the room is so large, there is plenty of space for it.
The pieces are turned over and a beginning made on the border.
That's the puzzle. I have no idea what that brown spot is on the box and don't think it was on the box before we moved, so ??? I am pleased to have found this ugly duckling so quickly for $10.00. It's perfect timing since the weather is again cold and windy with rain promised for the weekend, when staying indoors will be the goal.

Have a good afternoon and evening.

2014's Greatest Hits

Hi, folks, and a happy hump day to everyone. This is my favorite thrift find in March, 2014:
the scrolly wooden shelf that now houses my salt and pepper shaker collection. It's a great way to display them and add a splash of color to the kitchen; plus, it cost less than $10. Hard to beat that for good storage and show off ability in one package. And yet again, it amazes me that it's March already.

Have a good one!

Hall Happy

Hello, all,

After a very foggy start today has turned out to be beautiful, sunny and warm, what a welcome change.

My roaming took me to a nearby Goodwill this morning. In addition to a couple of books and small odds and ends  I found a shelf for $8.99. Nothing but my eyeball judgment was available, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. It is now located in the small hallway between our bedroom, the closet and bath. As hoped, it fits perfectly on top of some nesting tables Mr. B bought at a yard sale a couple of years ago. Take a look:
It's got kind of a faux bamboo thing going on.
It was dirty, but has no damage or serious sign of wear. There are hangers on the back if you want to put it on a wall.
This spurred a mini cleanup in that corner, which is always A Good Thing.
Because it is higher, the poster-sized photo collage didn't fit anymore, so this picture by middle daughter Mary is above it now. Several of my kids took classes called Zoo Art and this is one of her efforts done where she was six or seven. The frame has a bamboo look, too, so it actually works well with the shelf unit.

That's all for now.

Have a good one.

March 2, 2015

Greetings, all,

I hope things have warmed up for you poor souls in the northeast. It is warmer here, but still dreary.

Today I worked as a volunteer at Manna, so of course, had to pick up a couple of things while I was there, a few paperbacks, one item to resell and this BoHo addition to organizing:
As you can see, it's a bright neon color with a pattern of dots.
It holds a lot, even my scale.
And fits neatly on the table next to the laptop. What could be better that a good way to hold stuff in a cheerful pattern for $3.00? Let's hope this excellent score is a good omen for the month of March!

Take it easy,

Michele
